In 2001, Chairman, Dr. Tyrone Williams envisioned an Alumni Reunion designed to complement, rather than replace existing class reunions.
The inaugural meeting occurred on Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Hayes Middle School, led by Principal Rev. Jimmy Burton, class of 1962. This gathering resulted in the formation of an Executive Board and various committees. The members of this board included Alma Evans Ball, Dorothy Cowin Thomas, Sara Banks Fuller, Victoria Beard Steele, Brenda Williams Martin, Sharon Streeter Lewis, Olita Williams, Willie Pullum, and Anderson Todd. In 2006, a visionary concept emerged aimed at bringing together all class reunions, which led to the establishment of the Alumni Association. The first official officers were elected by paper ballot voting. Dorothy Thomas was Chairman of the Board, Anna Scott McMullen was elected President, Brenda Martin was elected Secretary and Alma Ball was elected Treasurer from 2006-2008. The organization was meant to include all graduates and attendees of Carol W. Hayes High School. Graduating classes spanned from 1962 to 1989 and also late classes 2005 to 2008.
The first Dr. Tyrone Williams Pacesetter Legacy Award (Scholarship) was presented in 2025 to a graduating senior through The Black Girl Collective-Women's Foundation of Alabama.
